Holidays and festivals

Every year, on Trinity, Suzdal hosts the Folk Crafts Festival on the territory of the Museum of Wooden Architecture. You couldn’t ask for a better place to hold such a colorful mass celebration! Trinity is an ancient orthodoxy holiday, which has deep folk roots. Trinity Day was usually celebrated at the end of spring or at the beginning of summer, when nature was filled with strength and freshness. People decorated their houses with birch branches and brought gifts in the name of fertility of the soil and favorable weather.

Murom was rightfully chosen as the center of the All-Russian holiday the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity. The names of Orthodox saints Peter and Fevronia  are associated with this old city from ancient times.  Their memorial day – the 8th of July – has been celebrated in Russia since 2008 as a public holiday.

Cucumber Festival in Suzdal is an original Russian holiday dedicated to everyone's favorite vegetable. Its popularity has been growing from year to year. The holiday was invented in 2001 by the employees of the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve not by chance: vegetable growing has long been the leading occupation of the inhabitants of Suzdal and the fertile Suzdal Opolye.

Interregional Festival of Folk Music and Crafts "On the Murom Path" has been held in Murom annually since 2001. Its organizers are the Department of Culture of the District Administration and the House of Folk Art of the Murom District. In fact, it has become the successor of the festival of folklore and crafts "Bogatyr Mountain " founded in 1997 on the initiative of the ensemble "Muroma".

International patchwork festival "Soul of Russia" has already become a traditional holiday for Suzdal citizens. It is annually held in August. Its organizers are the Association of Patchwork Masters of Russia and the Administration of Suzdal. The aim of the festival is to revive folk traditions of needlework and scrappy sewing. Patchwork is a specific type of needlework: while sewing the master is using  pieces of fabric (flaps) to make a mosaic ornament.

One of the most exciting folk culture festivals held on Vladimir Land is All-Russian Festival of Russian Folk Dance called "Round Dances are performed All Over Russia". Its name reproduces a line from the poem by Andrey Dementyev dedicated to T.A. Ustinova. This large-scale show of Russian folk dance was conceived as a tribute to Tatyana Alekseevna Ustinova, an outstanding performer and choreographer, teacher and theorist of folk stage dance, People's Artist of the USSR and USSR State Prize Laureate.
